South Africa is famed for the diversity of its landscapes, from the arid plains of the Karoo and the world-renowned national game areas in the north and north-east, to the extraordinary coastline flowing across two great oceans. South Africa is all about the great outdoors and there are many opportunities for hiking, biking and kayaking, from the Drakensberg mountains to the scenic Two Oceans coast- line around Cape Town.

A trip to South Africa has got it all, from mesmerizing wildlife to extreme adventure, rich heritage to contemporary culture.

 good to know

When to visit

Any time, but Cape Town is best late Jan - Apr or Oct - early Dec. Avoid Kruger Nov-Jan when it’s hot, wet and mosquito-laden.

Wildlife

The big 7 - lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo plus southern right whales and great white sharks.

Getting there

Most international air carriers fly directly into Johannesburg or Cape Town.

Travelling around

Consider a luxury train between Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

Be aware of

In the cities opportunistic crime can be a problem so don’t flash phones, money or expensive jewellery around.

Great for

Families, sport-lovers, food-lovers, culture-lovers, animal-lovers… the list goes on.

Warmth & Hospitality

We are constantly amazed at how local residents open their doors to welcome our guests into their own homes, as well as the genuine care and exuberance shown by all our local guides who love sharing their experiences.  The best way to open those doors is to be curious and ask questions of your hospitality staff. You’ll be amazed at the depth of understanding you’ll gain.

Kruger National Park

The first national game park in Africa, the Kruger National Park covers an area the size of Wales.

The incredible diversity of habitats and wildlife is ultimately what makes it so special: its ecosystems play host to 147 mammal species, 517 bird species,  114 reptile species, 50 fish species and tens of thousands of invertebrate species.  Kruger is a prime location for viewing large safari animals including elephants, lions, rhinos and wildebeests.

Diverse Culture

South Africa is a country with 11 official languages, many used simultaneously, which makes for a very rich and fun communication dialogue. For visitors seeking a better understanding of the country’s complex cultural and political history, there are many museums to explore, including UNESCO World Heritage Site Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years of his 27-year sentence.

The Garden Route

Travel up the south-east coast from Cape Point and you’ll experience beaches, lagoons, forests, lakes and more. Nature lovers are truly spoilt with the rich and fascinating biodiversity of flora and fynbos, land animals and birds, marine life and reefs. When a day of exploring by foot, kayak, or bike is done, you can relax with a glass of wine as you watch the spectacular sunset and listen to the wild waves crashing on the rocks
